Stress Check
In accordance with the Stress Check System prescribed in the Revised Industrial Safety and Health Act and enforced on December 1, 2015, Nagoya University implements its own Stress Check System (hereinafter referred to as the “Stress Check System”). Under this system, faculty and staff undergo evaluations to assess their degree of psychological stress (hereinafter referred to as “Stress Check”) and, based on the results, may receive in-person guidance or other forms of assistance.
By conducting regular evaluations to assess employees’ level of stress, this system aims to alert employees to their stress levels by informing them of the results of their evaluations and thus stop mental health problems before they start. The system also strives to reduce risk factors by assessing sources of stress in the workplace and enacting reforms in workplace environment.
Stress Checks are not mandatory; however, they can help you notice your stress levels and provide an opportunity to prevent mental health problems from arising. We encourage everyone who is eligible to take the Stress Check.
Evaluation Period
Check period is from Tues., July 20 to Wed., August 11
Eligible employees
Nagoya University faculty and staff (excluding those meeting any of criteria ①～⑥ below)
①Employees working less than 20 hours per week; ②Part-time lecturers; ③Teaching Assistants; ④Research Assistants; ⑤Dispatch workers; ⑥Workers on loan to outside the University
Evaluation Procedures
When the evaluation period begins, the individual in charge at each division or department will send an email directing you to the Stress Check website. Please go to the website and complete the “Brief Job Stress Questionnaire” (57 items). The evaluation takes 5-10 minutes to complete. (The website can be accessed from outside the University.)
The email will also contain instructions on how to complete the evaluation.

Evaluation Results
While results of the Stress Check will be available for viewing shortly after the exam, the results displayed at this time will be unofficial. The Director of Health Administration Office, who is also a Nagoya University industrial physician, will conduct evaluations based on these unofficial results, and the official results will be published after that. New notifications will be sent out when the official results are published, so please make sure to check the results on the website.
